Young musicians perform at State Solo and Ensemble Festival

Young musicians are putting their practice to the test.

A state solo and ensemble festival event... was held at viterbo university in la crosse.

Middle and high school students performed songs for judges at the fine arts center.

To qualify for state... students had to earn a top score on a difficult piece of music during the district competitions.

One organizer says... music teaches students discipline and self-confidence which they can carry with them for the rest of their life.

"music can be a life- long tool.

It's something that we hope that they take with them whether it be a career in music or if they come home at night and need stress relief."

The event is one of nine being held in wisconsin.
