BIE to provide copy of scripts to anyone for academic purposes

The Board of Intermediate Education (BIE) has claimed that the answer scripts of all candidates who committed suicide were reverified by senior most teachers and in most cases it was found that their academic track record was poor.

After reverification of their answer scripts, in none of the cases was there an increase in marks from fail to pass, a statement from the BIE said. On analysis, it was found that out of 25 such students, 14 had failed in more than one subject. In a peculiar case, a student committed suicide even after scoring around 85% and getting “A” grade.

The BIE was against making the names and marks of these students public since their parents were already in distress and grief. But anyone who wished to have access to these papers for academic purpose or for analysing the reason for the deaths could write to the board, requesting copy of the scripts, and it would be provided to them.

The BIE said that an indepth analysis into these cases would be done by an experts committee and steps would be taken based on the report to avoid future cases of suicide.

Reverification results

The statement said reverification process was on and results would be declared before May 10. The scanned answer scripts of all the failed candidates would be available for downloading within 15 days of the declaration of the results.

Refuting the allegations of marks of one student being allotted to another student, the BIE said it was not possible since marks were linked to bar code number, which was linked to the hall ticket. Such allegations would be proved false once the answer scripts were uploaded, the BIE said.

On the evaluation process, the BIE said the software agency was nowhere involved in the process.
