These celebrities prove that beige is definitely not boring

From Alia Bhatt and Priyanka Chopra to Meghan Markle, celebrities are giving a nod to beige this year. Ahead, we give you all the inspiration you need to ace the trend

2009 belonged to beige. Industry heavyweights like Chanel, Valentino and Max Mara brought pastel and nudes to the catwalk. Fashion, known for its revolving doors of trends, is now scrolling through its archives 10 years later to bring back earth-toned colours for 2019.
Coco Chanel famously said, “I take refuge in beige because it’s natural,” and this spring, designers took refuge in this neutral, versatile and sophisticated shade in both experimental and traditional manners. There were classic trench coats at Burberry, free-movement pleated skirts at Christian Dior, sandy cropped jackets at Fendi, stone-toned suits at Tibi, and tea-stained athleisure by Jil Sander. Shades of oatmeal, toast, cappuccino, sand, biscuit, and the never-ending spectrum of beige, worn head-to-toe, won designers’ approval this season.
The hue found patrons among the A-lister too, with stars like Priyanka Chopra and Meghan Markle all putting together seriously cool beige looks. As a starting point, beige works as a building block in any wardrobe, and can be worn with almost everything. Chopra, for example, styled beige with sharp contrasting colours, while Sonakshi Sinha opted for a glittering beige sari by Manish Malhotra.
For those weary of the head-to-toe look, try off-the-moment colour pairings of beige + neon, beige + animal print and beige + checks. You can lift a khaki jumpsuit with bright orange heels; an oversized coffee coloured trench goes best with snakeskin boots; and a checked shirt can make a beige suit pop. Alternatively, you can also go down the puritan route by wearing a nude shirt under the suit to stay true to the all-over beige look that the street style set are really into this season.
