A girl suffocated to death in Thiruvanmiyur on Friday after she and her younger sister hid in a wooden box during a game of hide and seek.
The police said Tirupathisamy’s daughters Thanushri, 7, and Charu, 5, were playing with other children inside their house.
The sisters hid inside a large wooden box and closed the lid. Sometime later, the mother realised her children were missing. While searching, she opened the box and found the unconscious girls inside. The children were rushed to the hospital.
Thanushri was declared “brought dead” while Charu regained consciousness after treatment.
