Polytechnic teachers to update professional skills at NIT-T

Teachers of polytechnic colleges are to benefit from a three-day programme titled ‘Training the Trainers on 21st Century Skills Education’ from May 8 at National Institute of Technology - Tiruchi.

The programme, to be conducted under MHRD's new scheme IMPRESS (Impactful Policy Research in Social Science) implemented through Indian Council of Social Science Research, will focus on effective communication, interpersonal relationship, creative thinking, critical thinking, problem-Solving skills, decision-making skills, negotiation skills, coping with stress, assertiveness and emotional resilience, achievement motivation, conflict resolution, soft skills, and personality development.

According to the programme coordinators, S. Mekala, Associate Professor, Department of Humanities and Social Sciences, and N. Thamaraiselvan, Professor, Department of of Management Studies, the programme that will be conducted without levy of registration fee aims at preparing the learners for meaningful and successful living in today's globalized context. The ‘Seed Skills’ have become necessary pre-requisites in the holistic development of learners, as it exposes them to a range of knowledge, skills, and values of life, the programme coordinators said, adding that the participants will be equipped to face challenges of the dynamic learning environment through gaining insights into soft skills for success and life skills for survival at the workplace.

The programme also envisages honing abilities of participants through interactive sessions.
