Grewal, Bittu lock horns over development

Ludhiana: Continuing his attack on Congress MP and the party candidate Ravneet Bittu, SAD BJP candidate Maheshinder Singh Grewal on Saturday asked latter to count and show his achievements of last five years. Addressing a gathering here on Saturday, he also advised Bittu against relying on the name of his grandfather late Beant Singh and his sacrifice for Punjab.
“While your grandfather laid down his life for Punjab, what have you done in all these years other than exploiting that sacrifice? Entire family, including the son, the daughter and the grandchildren have already been rehabilitated, not once but several times, in lieu of the sacrifice of late Beant Singh,” he claimed.
He also recounted that most of the families in Punjab has a history of sacrifice for the country. “Even my maternal uncle laid down his life for the liberation of Goa, but I never claimed anything in compensation. Every other day, one or the other Punjabi lays down his life for the country and everyone is proud of that, without expecting any rewards and compensations,” he said while adding .
He said that ten years are a lot of time for anyone to set his credit balance of achievements to show to the people. “But unfortunately Bittu has done nothing for Anandpur Sahib as well as Ludhiana in these years so he is still seeking votes in the name of his grandfather,” he added.
He added that Punjab has moved past from the dark era of terrorism in1980s and 90s and now it was keen to move on the path of progress and development where youth wanted jobs. “Youngsters are not getting jobs as per their qualifications and they have strong resentment against the Congress government for making false promises of giving one government job in every family,” he added.
However the Congress MP Ravneet Bittu said claimed, “I have shown everything to the voters and all the works which I did in my past tenure have been shown through hoardings. I am not seeking votes in the name of my grandfather but people still remember his name and they give him love and respect for I being his grandson. As far as benefits are concerned Grewal also got many favours from SAD leadership,” he alleged.
