Tattoos help Amreli cops crack six-month-old beheading case

The accused in police custody
Rajkot: In the six-month-old sensational murder case, in which the beheaded body of a woman was found in Savarkundla of Amreli district, her paramour was arrested on Sunday.
The accused, identified as Kanji Godhadia alias Kano, had murdered Sonal Sangani.
The woman’s unidentified body was found dumped in a pit near the dumping station of Savarkundla municipality on November 4, 2018.
Her body bore several tattoos such as ‘S.S’ on the right hand thumb and ‘M.S’ on the wrist. On her left hand thumb, ‘Kano’ was inked while on the wrist it was tattooed ‘Raju’.
The cops launched a search in Amreli and adjoining districts to find out missing women in the age group of 25 to 30. They also launched a search for the women whose name started with the letter ‘S’ or ‘M’, and the persons whose names were ‘Kano’ or ‘Raju’.
“Meanwhile, we received a tip-off that a man named Kana, who lived with a woman named Sonal near Bodhariyani village of Savarkundla, had been missing since the body was found. We found that Kana was in Gundala village of Sihor taluka in Bhavnagar district, following which we arrested him from there,” said Amreli LCB inspector R K Karamata.
Kana confessed to having murdered Sonal Sangani. Kana said that after getting divorce from her husband, Sangani had come to stay with his sister Daya in Savarkundla where she had come in contact with him.

After she fell in love with Kana, she moved to live with him and tattooed his name on her wrist. Kana took Sangani to Gundala village and started living with her.
“Kana was alcoholic and he used to beat Sangani up after getting drunk. On the eve of the crime, Kana beat up Sangani so badly that she died. Next day, telling his neighbours that Sangani had died of illness, Kana hired a vehicle and took her body to Khatarvadi. After the vehicle drove away, he beheaded Sangani with a saw and dumped her body there after covering it with a blanket. He buried her head near Dhajadi village,” said Karamata.
