Coimbatore: Those who wrote the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) in the city on Sunday found the biology section easy, the chemistry section moderately easy and the physics section tough.
Of the 45 questions in the physics section, they could answer only 10 to 15 questions, candidates who wrote the exam at the National Model School at Peelamedu said. The physics questions were twisted and required critical thinking, said S Vismitha, a student. “They needed a lot of time to answer,” she told TOI.
But chemistry was moderately easy, said the students. Many of them could attend 20 to 25 questions. “I attended 25 questions from chemistry,” said Sethu Venkat, who wrote the exam for the second time.
However, the biology sectionbotany and zoologywas the easiest of all, the students said. Many of them could attend 30 to 35 questions.
The paper has 180 multiple-choice questions45 each from botany, zoology, physics and chemistry. Each correct response would be given four marks and one mark would be deducted for every incorrect response. Many candidates attended about 120 questions out of 180.
Representatives of NEET coaching centres in the city said the paper was easy this year. They expected the cut-off marks to go up.
“After talking to students, almost all of them said they found biology to be easy and chemistry to be moderately easy. The physics paper had a few theoretical questions, more than the usual,” said K Sivakumar, a representative of the Time Coaching Centre. “We expect the cut-off to go up by 50 marks.”
Of the 13,324 candidates, who had registered for the exam at the 13 NEET examination centres in the district, 11,300 appeared. Candidates from Coimbatore and surrounding regions took the test in the district. Each exam hall had 24 students and two invigilators. National Testing Agency (NTA) had appointed 25 observers, 13 representatives and 13 centre superintendents for the district.
Last year, the district had 32 NEET examination centres. As many as 15,960 candidates registered and 899 were absent.
