Chennai:
Around 560 exam centres have been allotted to allow most of the aspirants, who are appearing for the test within the State itself. Last year, the number of exam centres were inadequate and more than 10,000 students had to choose exam centres in Kerala, Haryana, Karnataka, Maharashtra and Andhra Pradesh, which led to chaos and inconvenience to the aspirants.
More than 19,000 candidates from government and government-aided schools are appearing for the exam this year. After initiating various efforts for coaching programmes in the State to train NEET aspirants, the State board students are expected to perform well this year. Last year, more than 21,000 state board students applied for the NEET exam, but none of them were able to make it to the top 10 in the rank list for MBBS or BDS admissions based on NEET marks in Tamil Nadu.
However, the officials of school education department say that the coaching programme and experts training at the NEET coaching centres is bound to bring better results this year.
With an increase in the number of NEET applications this year, the number of exam centres within the State has been increased in comparison to last year.
