PIMPRI CHINCHWAD: A six-year-old boy was killed after the compound wall of an housing society collapsed and fell on him in Kasarwadi on Saturday afternoon.
The deceased has been identified as Lokesh Thakur. An officer of the Bhosari police said a case of accidental death has been registered and the statements of the boy’s family members would be recorded on Sunday.
“The wall collapse occurred around 3.45pm when the boy was playing in the space between his house and that of the compound wall of the adjacent Yashwant Pride housing society in Gulistannagar. As the wall crashed, the boy’s mother went inside the house while asking the boy to follow her. However, the wall fell on the boy, leading to his death,” NCP corporator Shyam Lande said.

Lokesh has two elder sisters and his father is a daily wage labourer while his mother is a homemaker. The boy was rushed to civic-run Yashwantrao Chavan Memorial hospital where he was proclaimed brought dead by the doctors.
BJP corporator Asha Dhaygude-Shendge said, “Around a 50-feet long portion of the compound wall collapsed in the afternoon when drainage work was under way. PCMC officials should inspect civic project sites, which they seldom do. Further, the contractor should have taken care to install barricades along the wall when the digging for drainage work was in progress here.”
