EVM part goes missing: Phandana repoll today

Kanpur: Following the discovery of an electronic voting machine (EVM) with a missing control unit during the fourth phase of the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, Phandana in Mahoba parliamentary constituency is all set for re-polling on Monday.
Phandana went to polls on April 29 and after the polling ended officials on election duty found that the control unit of one of the EVMs was missing.
A day later, it was found abandoned in the bushes in Phandana village of Panwari area.
As per reports, once the votes were cast at booth number 127 of voting centre 92 and sector 8, under Charkhari assembly segment of Mahoba Lok Sabha seat, officials on duty submitted the EVM machine at Government Polytechnic. It was found that the control unit of the EVM, which saves the data, was missing.
A day later, the missing part was found in a cement sack dumped in the bushes close by local villagers. They immediately informed the police, which in turn alerted the district election cell.

Later, the district election officer Sahdeo Prasad ordered that charges be filed against four election staff and five security personnel.
The Election Commission announced that Phandana would go to polls again on May 6, during the fifth phase of the Lok Sabha elections. “All arrangements have been made and voting will begin at 7am and end at 6pm,” said district election officer Sahdeo Prasad.
