NEW DELHI: A 22-year-old paid with his life for intervening in a fight between a minor and his
cousin in east Delhi’s Trilokpuri. The victim, Akash Kumar, died on Saturday, days after being stabbed multiple times by a 16-year-old boy from his locality.
Kumar had gone to resolve a fight between the accused and his cousin over a
cricket match. However, it did not go well with the
juvenile, who later returned to the ground with a kitchen knife and stabbed Kumar multiple times.
DCP (east) Jasmeet Singh said IPC Section 302 (murder) has been added to the FIR and appropriate legal action was being taken. The incident happened on April 22 when the two teenagers got into a scuffle over a petty issue. Kumar, who lived nearby, saw his cousin fight and went there to intervene and even managed to resolve it. But little did he know that the juvenile accused would return with a kitchen knife and stab him.
The locals informed the cops and a case under IPC Section 324 (voluntarily causing hurt by dangerous weapon) was registered and the juvenile was sent to a correction home. The knife used in the attack was also seized. Kumar was taken to a nearby hospital under critical condition where he was under observation, but ultimately died on Saturday.
