As part of its pre-monsoon disease prevention programme, the district administration of Kottayam is organising a massive sanitation drive on May 11 and 12.

A meeting chaired by the Civil Supplies Minister P. Thilothaman here the other day approved an action plan for the sanitation drive, to be carried out at the ward level. The meeting also entrusted the local self-government institutions to ensure that all the roads and water bodies are free from pollution.

As per this, the local bodies will hold discussions with the various stake holders and come up with an action plan for their respective regions. A mapping of garbage accumulation in public places and waysides will be made alongside.

The plan also envisages stern action against those polluting public places and water bodies.
