Coimbatore: The forest department officials arrested five people and recovered the carcass of a peacock and a gun from them near Ugayanur in Periyanaickenpalayam range on Sunday.
The arrested were identified as R Murugan, 37, N Subramani, 49, N Sakthivel, 38, R Praveen, 24, and V Mohan kumar, 39. The officials are on the lookout for two more – G Manikandan, 23, and N Saravanan, 36.
When the forest officials attempted to catch them, two of them fled the spot and the remaining were caught. They were booked under the Wildlife Protection Act.
