2 cops party with accused, caught on cam, suspended

Gurgaon: Police were left red-faced when two of their own men were caught on video drinking and making merry with two accused at Sector 37 police station. In the video that later went viral, the two policemen can be seen with a local sarpanch and his brother-in-law, who have been accused of thrashing the family of a policewoman. The video was allegedly recorded on Tues-day night.
The policemen, ASI Mandeep and constable Ankul, were later suspended by police commissioner Mohammad Akil, who also issued a show cause notice to Rakesh Kumar, SHO of the police station.
The move raised a few eyebrows as the SHO, who is responsible for maintaining decorum at the police station, did not face disciplinary action.
“What happened at the police station cannot be tolerated. We have taken stern action against the erring cops by suspending them. A departmental inquiry will also be conducted against them,” said the police commissioner. He added that the case that had been registered against the sarpanch, Jaiveer, and his brother-in-law Abhishek, alias Bunty, has been transferred to the crime unit for investigation.
Earlier, Jaiveer and Bunty were arrested and sent to judicial custody. On Tuesday night, Jaiveer, Bunty and their driver Sunny had gone to a woman constable’s house and they thrashed her there, the police said. They also beat up her husband and fired in the air to threaten them. The police said CCTV footage showed that Sunny was shot in the arm by the accused in an attempt to frame the family.
