Three women passengers were targeted again by miscreants on Sunday when they lost seven sovereigns of jewellery. The incident took place on three express trains near Mavelipalayam railway station.
The miscreants robbed passengers of their valuables taking advantage of railway engineering work which was under way between Mavelipalayam and Sankagiri railway stations. The miscreants on on Saturday robbed 22 sovereigns of gold jewellery from five passengers on four different trains. Following the incident, railway police have been deployed in huge numbers in the area.
Senior police officials, including West Zone IG K. Periaiah, Railways DIG V. Balakrishnan and Superintendent of Police for Salem S. Deepa Ganiger visited the place on Sunday and inspected the areas near the railway tracks.
