HYDERABAD: A local TRS leader allegedly manhandled a 20-year-old man and set his two-wheeler ablaze at Rehmath Nagar in
Jubilee Hills on Friday for apparently not giving him 'respect'. The TRS leader and his associates were seen using filthy language and got into a scuffle with police, according to a video.
Jubilee Hills police said Umakanth, a pan shop owner-cum-driver, in his complaint, said when he was returning home he was stopped by TRS leader K Arun Kumar, 35. The latter picked up an argument alleging that Umakanth did not wish him with a '
namaste'. "Arun, a TRS leader, was seen drinking. He brandished a knife and threatened me, accusing me of not respecting him. My vehicle was also set ablaze," Umakanth said.
After Umakanth's vehicle was damaged, local police were alerted about the incident, but Arun and his associates were in an aggressive mood. Later, Arun and his associates were seen getting into an argument with Umakanth and his supporters in the presence of cops and were seen using filthy language. Later, a few more supporters of Arun descended on the location. They were in an aggressive mood and preparing to physically take on Umakanth and his supporters. However, cops stopped them, but the group even used abusive language against the cops.
Based on Umaknath's complaint, a case was registered under Section 506 (Intimidation), 323 (Punishment for voluntarily causing hurt) and 435 (Mischief by fire or explosive substance with intent to cause damage) of IPC against Arun and others. The video of the incident has gone viral and some even tagged it to TRS brass.
