By now, we all know that our gut health is inextricably linked to our overall health - and so try to eat accordingly.
But while it's obvious that overly sugary foods will aggravate our digestion, there are some less obvious things that will irritate our guts too.
Recently, the gut expert and author of Happy Gut Dr Vincent Pedre revealed the three foods he would never touch - and it's bad news for curry fans.

'Fatigue, mental fog, and allergic conditions like an allergy, asthma, or skin rashes are all related to poor gut health,' Dr Vincent explained to MyDomaine.
So what are the foods he stays away from, no matter how much he might want to enjoy them every so often?
1. Wheat and gluten
According to Dr Vincent, wheat and gluten are bad news for your gut because they can 'slow down digestion and cause constipation'.
'Gluten is a very hydrophilic molecule, meaning it attracts water and is a binder,' he said.
This, in turn, leads to it becoming a 'big mass' in the stomach - or something that is difficult to digest.

2. Fried foods
The second item on Dr Vincent's banned list is fried foods, which he describes as a 'big problem'.
The expert said such foods are usually 'fried in flour' - which means not only are you eating fried foods, but also gluten.
'It's a double whammy,' he said.
3. Spicy foods
Last but not least, Dr Vincent also avoids spicy foods, which doesn't mean he avoids spices, but 'excessively spicy foods like habanero peppers or curry'.
These foods, he said, irritate the gut lining, which can lead to issues.

When it comes to what he does trust for a healthy and happy gut, the expert said one great habit to get into is giving yourself a cup of hot water with freshly-squeezed lemon first thing in the morning.
He also said a fruit and veg-packed smoothie is the ideal way to start the day, because they don't 'weigh on your digestive system' and do the digestion for you.
Incorporating soups and bone broths into your diet is also a good idea, as is anything that has been slow cooked or put into a casserole.
