Chennai:
“There cannot be a better proof of the BJP regime meting out step motherly treatment to Tamil Nadu than this,” Alagiri said, seeking to know if Tamilisai could tell how much of the Rs 14,100 crore sought by TN for cyclone Gaja relief was allocated by the Centre.
Recalling the visit of then home minister P Chidambaram to TN after cyclone Thane ravaged the northern districts in 2011, the TNCC chief sought to know why Prime Minister Narendra Modi or his home minister Rajnath Singh had not visited TN after cyclone Gaja hit the delta districts, claiming 63 lives and uprooting lakhs of coconut trees. “Why did the PM not even issue a condolence message for victims of cyclone Gaja?” Alagiri asked.
Tamilisai Soundararajan had wondered if Manmohan Singh had visited the state during cyclone Thane in 2011. Responding to her in kind, Alagiri said that Tamil Nadu had sought Rs 1.24 lakh crore for various disaster relief measures during 2015-18 period, but the Modi government had only sanctioned Rs 3,700 crore.
