Cyclone Fani grounds over 15 flights at KIA

Kempegowda International Airport
BENGALURU: More than 15 flights scheduled for departure from the Kempegowda International Airport (KIA) were cancelled on Saturday due to the impact of Cyclone Fani and subsequent closure of Kolkata and Bhubaneswar airports till Saturday afternoon.
While 10 flights to Kolkata were cancelled, four flights to Bhubaneswar and one each to Ranchi and Visakhapatnam were cancelled, leaving hundreds of passengers in the lurch. An equal number of flights from Kolkata/Bhubaneswar to Bengaluru were also declared cancelled on Saturday. Ten flights of Indigo, which operates the maximum number of services between Bengaluru and Kolkata, were cancelled. Passengers who made bookings through Bhubaneswar and Kolkata routes to other destinations such as Guwahati and Mumbai were also left stranded with several services being partially cancelled.
All airlines, however, have assured of full refunds with waiving of cancellation and rescheduling fees. A few airlines resumed operations at Bhubaneswar airport by 1pm after an assessment of the damage carried out by the Airports Authority of India (AAI) team.
