Nagpur: A 16-year-old girl was allegedly kidnapped, drugged and raped by her neighbour in January.
The survivor, who is three months pregnant, lodged a complaint with the
Sitabuldi police on Saturday.
The accused, Melwyn John, was arrested on Sunday and booked under various sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). He will be produced before the court on Monday.
According to the police, the survivor is a standard XI student of a college situated near Law College Square. In January, John approached her when she was walking in the area near Seminary Hills. He abused and thrashed her before allegedly kidnapping her. The accused then took the survivor on his moped to a house with a tin shed where he offered her a chocolate.
Soon after consuming the chocolate, the survivor fell asleep and the accused exploited her. When she woke up, she found no clothes on her body which was covered by a blanket. The accused then threatened her of dire consequences if she narrated the incident to anybody.
The survivor remained silent, but in April, she learnt that she was three months pregnant.
She approached John, who lives in her neighbourhood in Sadar. She told him that she is pregnant.
John then took the survivor to a hospital in Dharampeth where she tested positive for pregnancy.
The survivor later narrated her ordeal to her parents who took her to the Mankapur police station. However, the case was registered at the Sitabuldi police station as the alleged kidnapping took place in that jurisdiction. John was arrested on Sunday.
