Korlapati warns of filing criminal cases if officials are found to be negligent on issue

Hephsiba Rani Korlapati, Deputy Commissioner, on Friday directed officers to take action within a week on all problems related to monsoon on national highways in the district. She was chairing a preparatory meeting with regard to the monsoon at the District Offices Complex, here.

Ms. Korlapati said that drains had not been constructed by the side of the highways at many places. This could obstruct traffic flow. Reflectors and boards should be installed at the right places to avoid accidents on national highways.

The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) and Department of National Highways should immediately take action on these matters. If the officials were negligent on this issue, criminal cases would be filed against them, she warned.

All tahsildars in the district should be in touch with the officers of the NHAI and Department of National Highways.

The Assistant Commissioner of Kundapur Subdivision should keep a vigil on this issue, she said.

Ms. Korlapati directed the officers of urban local bodies and Panchayat Development Officers of Gram Panchayats to remove silt from drains in both rural and urban areas so that rain water can flow smoothly.

The taluk offices and local bodies should have a 42x7 control rooms, she said.

The Health Department should have stocks of all medicines and have a 24-hour control room. The Primary Health Centres too should be ready to deal with health issues during the monsoon. If there was any unnatural death, the postmortem reports should be provided soon, she said.

During emergencies, the Department of Public Instruction should provide school buildings to open gruel centres (‘ganji kendras’). Some school children lost their lives as they went for swimming on holidays during monsoon.

A meeting of both children and their parents should be called in June and they should be told against going for a swim, she said.

She directed the MESCOM officials to make arrangements to clear the trees which fell on electricity lines immediately.

The MESCOM should open a control room for emergency maintenance services. The numbers of the MESCOM control rooms should be made available to the public, Ms. Korlapati added.
