There may be nothing more frustrating than being at a dead stop in traffic.

Some commuters tell us they're waiting almost ten minutes to get through one intersection.

Our madalyn o'neill is live at verona road and highway p-d with why this might be.

Rush hour ending, lots of cars, etc.

Drivers are no strangers to construction work going on here on verona road.

But with increased wait times at this intersection ..

Officials are asking commuters to have a renewed sense of patience.

We all know the feeling of being stuck in traffic.

Eggers 41:21 "it's just amazingly crazy out there."

So sometimes it's easier to just watch it from inside.

Despite traffic ..

During rush hour ... eggers 39:35 "literally, it's almost impossible to get off nesbitt road to cross nesbitt road from verona road."

Cory mcmahan owner, monkeyshines 33:20 "when we were first there it was out in the country."

Since 1978, current owner cory mcmahan has watched the area grow through his family's restaurant's windows.

Mcmahan 34:08 "it adds traffic, that's all there is to it.

You need to upgrade the roads we have.

Upgrading the road means longer wait times -- staff say it adds 10 minutes to the drive.

Mcmahan 36:25 "they're feeling it.

They're definitely feeling it."

The department of transportation says with the new, larger configuration of the verona road and highway pd intersection ..

There's too much space for two lanes of traffic to turn left at the same time safely.

Mcmahan 31:35ish "they have to alternate, so we do have some pretty long wait times at these intersections."

But the dot has been monitoring and adjusting the intersectoin's configuration ..

Saying they now believe they're in a good spot.

They say it can take drivers a few weeks to adjust ..

And are asking them to be patient.

Mcmahan 37:40 "visualizing the end game to to speak, because it's really going to be wonderful when it's done."

Which is sometimes easier said, than done.

Eggers 42:10 "i really, truly hope they get it done soon."

The d-o-t says you'll either want to plan for some extra commute time ..

Or find alternate routes ... because this intersection will be under construction for much of the summer.

They say they'll continue watching traffic volume to look for ways to improve the intersection's configuration ..

But they say there's only os much you can do during rush hour.
