Karnataka: 43-year-old cashier gives fresh lease of life to many

BENGALURU: A 43-year-old cashier from Tumkur who met with a road accident near DLF circle in Bengaluru has now given a fresh lease of life to others with his family giving consent to donate his kidneys, liver and corneas.
The cashier Krishnappa (name changed upon request), was working as a cashier at a bar near Jigani Circle in the city and is survived by his wife and a 12-year-old son. On April 24, Krishnappa met with an accident and suffered from severe head injuries, said his family members. After initial treatment at Sparsh hospital on Hosur Main Road, Krishnappa was later transferred to the Narayana Health hospitals for further treatment, around 7pm on April 29. Around 9pm, he was declared brain dead by the doctors.

Krishnappsa’s liver which has been donated will now offer a fresh lease of life to a 54-year-old male patient at NH while his left and right kidney will go to a 38-year-old male patient being treated at NH and a 42-year-old male patient being treated at Apollo Hospitals on Bannerghata road, respectively. His corneas meanwhile, have been donated to the Narayana Nethralaya.
The organ donation and retrieval process were coordinated by Jeevasarthakate— a nodal body for organ donations in Karnataka.
