RTGS helped minimise damage: CM

The State government could peg the Fani cyclone loss roughly at ₹10 crore as per preliminary estimates. Literally, there is no human loss due to the cyclone which made landfall near Puri in Odisha on Friday.

The cyclone impact could be seen in Srikakulam and Vizianagaram districts. “But, it is zero human loss and minimum suffering due to Real Time Governance (RTG), better preparedness and vision,” said Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu.

Addressing a press conference at Grievance Hall, at Undavalli, on Friday, Mr. Naidu said that 14 mandals and 733 villages were affected due to the cyclone. Restoration works were completed in 408 villages. The horticulture loss was in 783 hectares.

Fishermen were not allowed to venture into the sea.

The officials alerted the people by providing exact information on the cyclone. The RTGS estimates on the cyclone movement proved to be correct. Food was provided at places where the mid-day meals scheme was being implemented. It helped in minimising the preparation problems. Food was provided to 1,14,504 people and the government would continue the food supply until normality was restored.

On April 29, it was expected that the depression would turn into a cyclone. The government made necessary arrangements duly following the predictions by the RTGS. The cyclone movement was tracked continuously to assess the loss and also to alert the districts administrations for making necessary arrangements, he said.
