Madison\'s female beer-makers want more women pursuing brewmaster passions

As one of the brewmasters told brewmasters told me... it's scientifically proven women have a more sophisticated palette.

Now that we have all sorts of high-quality options on tap... we're not just drinking it... we're making it too.

Nats - door in and out of giant jones ashley kinart- short/capital brewery brewmaster: 5807 my husband comes and helps me pour beer at beer festivals a lot, and 99.9% of the time... they come up to him and ask him how the beer is made... nats - brewery ashley: a very large majority of brewers are big dudes with facial hair and flannels on.

Ashley kinart- short is none of those things.

Nats - brewery she has concocted for capital brewing for the past six years... but still has to explain herself.

Ashley: we're all just brewmasters.

I don't have to be have to be the female brewmaster anymore, i'm just the brewmaster.

Erica deanda/octopi brewing brewer: 1433 i feel like it's becoming more of a norm... erica deanda runs the wisconsin chapter of the pink boots society.

Erica: 1325 an international organization of women in the beer industry... of the six brewers at octopi... she's the only woman.

Erica: 1517 the guys that i work with, they look at me like basically, i'm another bro.

22 women are still way in the minority in this line of work.

Recent studies show we drink about a third of beer in the u-s... but only 4- percent of brewmasters are female... a light lager kind of percentage!

These ladies want to see bourbon barrel-aged imperial stout levels.

Jessica jones/giant jones brewing company: 53 when we have everybody involved, everything's better.

25 it was jessica jones who decided to bring the women who brew out from behind their hops... hosting in heels at her brewery, giant jones.

Jessica: 5303 any time industries are dominated by a certain group of people, and we're not reflecting the fullness of society and diversity of society, we're missing out on the opportunities that segment of industry has to offer, in that spirit... jones invited women who make cheese, jam, chips, and oh yeah, beer... to share their craft with the crowd.

Nats - brewery so next time you picture the person behind your beer... don't be surprised if your pint has a woman's touch.
