Man runs over stray dog in Thane, held

THANE: A man was arrested for allegedly running over a stray dog in Thane late on Wednesday. The police said that the accused, Girish Mishra (45), is out on bail.
The complainant, Samir Sawant (23), a resident of Vartak Nagar, stated in his complaint that a few people were standing near the gate of a building on Wednesday midnight and when he inquired with them, he learnt that Mishra, who was driving the car rashly had run over the stray dog around 11.45 pm. "Two witnessess said that the dog, Pillu, yelped in pain when the car moved over him. He died within a minute," Sawant told TOI.
Later, these two witnesses chased Mishra over a distance and confronted him while others took Pillu to a veterinary doctor who declared the puppy dead.

The incident was captured on cameras that have been installed at the complex, Sawant said. He added that there are a couple of stray canines in and around the complex and residents regularly feed the dogs and also take care of their vaccination. This incident has enraged animal lovers.
Sawant later lodged a complaint at Vartak Nagar police station. The accused He was granted bail later in the day.
