Accusing the management of resorting to anti-worker policies and taking a unilateral stand on crucial issues relating to employees’ welfare, the AP State Road Transport Corporation Trade Unions Joint Action Committee has decided to serve a strike notice on May 9.
Speaking to reporters after the JAC meeting at the union office in Pandit Nehru Bus Station on Friday, committee convener P. Damodar Rao said though the JAC had given a strike notice to the management in December last year, it agreed to wait for some time after RTC chairman Varla Ramaiah, vice-chairman and managing director N.V. Surendra Babu, along with Transport Minister Atchannaidu gave it in writing that the employees would be paid 25% temporary fitment allowance and 40% arrears.
The management had not paid the promised money even after three months, Mr. Rao said.
The committee chairman also charged the management with adopting policies aimed at downsizing the staff in certain departments of the Corporation without taking the union leaders into confidence.
He said after serving the strike notice on May 9, the JAC would meet again to chalk out their agitation plan which would be taken up in a phased manner.
