JAIPUR: With CBSE class XII results already declared, students have started enlisting names of colleges to apply for graduation. Students who have scored above 95% have already made up their minds to apply for Delhi University (DU), arguably best in the country, which is also close to Jaipur.
Tithi Maheshwari, who scored 97% in Humanities stream in class XII board exams says that because of its reputation and prestige, most of the students prefer DU than any other university in the country. “If I wouldn’t be able to get into DU, then I will apply for
Maharani College, Jaipur, which is an equally good
college for graduation in Economics. I am also planning to apply for Christ University, Bangalore, but my home city will be my preference,” said Tithi.
Many students from Humanities and Commerce streams studied keeping in mind the target to get admission in one of the many esteemed DU colleges — like Lady Shri Ram College, Shri Ram College of Commerce, Hindu College, St. Stephen’s, Miranda House, etc. Around 20%-30% students though, are also filling up forms for Mumbai and Pune-based universities and colleges like Xavier’s and Symbiosis.
Vice principal of Maharani College, Rashmi Jain said,“There will be a rush for admissions, but many universities haven’t released their prospectus and will have to hurry up their admissions. It is difficult to get admission in Mumbai and Chennai universities as they have separate domicile quota and only 10% to 15% is left for other states’ students. Moreover, due to ‘percentile’ formula in Rajasthan University, high scorers of CBSE do not get admission, but state board students do. So, students prefer universities out of state.”
