Nagpur: A 35-year-old woman was set on fire by her husband after she allegedly served him stale food on Friday in Beltarodi area.
Police have arrested the accused, identified as Sunil Godmare, 40, for attempt to murder and subjecting his wife to cruelty under section 307 and 498A of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
The victim is being treated at the Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH). Her condition is said to be serious.
According to police, Sunil, a labourer, married Minakshi a few years ago and has a son from the marriage. An alcoholic, Sunil regularly used to get into quarrels with Minakshi because he suspected her infidelity.
On Friday, Sunil came home drunk and started demanding food. When Minakshi told him that dinner was not ready, he got angry and started abusing her.
Fearing further abuse, mentally as well as physically, Minakshi panicked and served Sunil stale food. In a fit of rage, Sunil dragged her to another room, poured kerosene and set her on fire.
After Meenakshi started screaming for help, her neighbours rushed to save her. They immediately doused the fire and rushed her to GMCH.
Meanwhile, one of the neighbours called the control room after which Beltarodi cops rushed to the spot and nabbed Sunil.
