- Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) laser has been a concept for over two decades

Dylan Mullan (pictured) has made $12million in one year with his at-home laser device
When Dylan Mullan saw how expensive the laser hair removal procedures were - doing your legs alone costs as much as $199 per session - he sensed a business opportunity.
Mr Mullan launched an at-home laser hair removal device and now makes a staggering $12million a year.
'We wanted to do something that hadn't really been done before, and we knew that the beauty industry was a space that we could really make an impact,' the 25-year-old from Sydney told FEMAIL.
'We knew we were onto a winner because what are the two things that everyone wishes they had more of? Time and money.'
So Mr Mullan launched Happy Skin Co 12 months ago, a $299 device that works in the same way the in-clinic laser treatments do but can be done at home.
And it turns out he was onto a winner.

'The fact that we were the first company to launch an at-home Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) laser hair removal handset in this way has given us a big advantage over the companies that have come since,' he said.
'It seems like every few days we see a new company trying to replicate what we are doing but what they don't understand is how much research and preparation went on behind the scenes before we launched the product to market.
'We tested countless models and worked with numerous manufacturers until we found one that could deliver the quality and results that we were after.'

The handsets work because the light energy from IPL is absorbed by the melanin in the hair, which then turns to heat and destroys the hair cells
Despite knowing he was creating something that was going to shake the beauty industry to its core, he was still surprised at the incredible revenue.
'Still to this day it can be a little hard to comprehend how much my life has changed in the space of 12 months,' he said.
'I feel extremely lucky and grateful for the position that I'm in now, and I'm super proud of how far we have already come, but what excites me the most is thinking about where we will be in another 12 months.'

While this might seem very futuristic its a practice that started almost 20 years ago and isn't based on harmful elements like radiation or UV lights

'It has never been linked to any nasty long-term side effects. We test all of our handsets before sending them off to customers to make sure all safety and quality standards are met,' he said.
The main demographic they reach are females between the ages of 18-34 but everyone from university students to busy mothers and bodybuilders are trying it out.
'We've received amazing feedback from people from all walks of life but the ones that probably bring the biggest smile to my face would be from the busy mums that could never afford or find the time for laser hair removal in the past,' he said.

'I know we're not going to win any awards for service to humanity for a laser hair removal handset but that's still pretty special.'
While there are promises in the laser hair removal scene that it can rid you of body hair forever, Mr Mullan said individuals should be wary of such claims.
'Most people will see complete results by the time they've completed their 12th session. At this point, hair generally stops growing completely however this doesn't mean it will never grow back,' he said.
'You actually have to be careful when anyone claims "permanent" laser hair removal as all forms of laser hair removal will require maintenance or eventually the hairs will start growing back.
'After completing your initial session, you would only have to use your handset about once every three months to maintain smooth, hairless skin.'
