NAGPUR: A day after Nagpur bench of Bombay high court ruled out
Maratha quota in postgraduate medical admissions for this year's admissions, the State
Common Entrance Test (CET) Cell on Friday orally requested the judges to modify its order.
The CET Cell, through counsel Nahush Khubalkar, prayed for specifying in the order that admissions, which were already conducted under the SEBC quota for medical PG seats, is cancelled for this year.
The lawyer informed that the admission rules were made by the government and therefore, the CET Cell needs clarity on how to conduct the admissions. Khubalkar also informed that they need to complete all the admissions before May 18 as per the Supreme Court guidelines and therefore, HC should think over this aspect as well.
A division bench comprising Justices Sunil Shukre and Pushpa Ganediwala rejected his request clarifying that when they had cancelled provisional seat matrix published on March 27, it means the entire process is cancelled and authorities need to re-conduct it.
The judges also pointed out that when SEBC students, who secured admission in ongoing centralized process till second round, were not made respondents in the case, there's no question of specifying that their admissions were cancelled.
"This judgment would give birth to many litigations as all admissions conducted so far till the second round would be cancelled. So to avoid that, we requested the HC to modify the orders or give us guidelines to conduct the admission procedure in a fresh format before the May 18 deadline," Khubalkar told TOI.
