Study reveals most accidents occur near factories

The traffic police on Saturday conducted awareness programmes in the premises of garment factories to educate employees on road safety. This followed a study conducted by the city traffic police that had revealed that a majority of fatal accidents occurred at three places — Nelamangala, Bannerghatta and Hosur Road — where many garment factories are situated.

“The study also revealed that 30% of the road accidents involved garment factory workers,” said P. Harishekaran, Additional Commissioner of Police.

The study revealed that accidents occur during morning and evening peak hours when women are rushing to and back from work.

Through these programmes, the city police aim to educate employees on road and travel safety, and their personal safety from anti-social elements, Mr. Harishekaran said.

“The aim of the department is to educate at least 1 lakh employees so that traffic rules are being followed,” said Mr. Harishekaran.

The police officials instructed the managements not to allow employees to commute by goods vehicles, which is a violation as per the Indian Motor vehicle Act. The High Court had recently underlined the need to prevent this practice.
