Cops detain ‘Lankan’ man from city

Thiruvananthapuram: At a time when intelligence agencies are maintaining high vigil in the state after Sri Lankan army chief revealed that the suspects involved in the recent blasts in the island nation have escaped to Kerala, police in the capital city detained a man, suspected to be a Sri Lankan national, on Saturday.
According to Thampanoor police, the man aged around 35-40 years spoke a language suspected to be Sinhalese. Though he claimed to be from Sri Lanka, he does not possess any documents to prove his nationality.

“We gather that he is in the city since April 20 and he had lost his passport after arriving in the city. He claimed to have come to the city as part of pilgrimage. But, such claims have to be crosschecked. The language barrier is posing as a serious impediment in extracting more details from him,” said city police commissioner Kori Sanjay Kumar Gurudin.
The man was detained from near KSRTC Bus Terminal at Thampanoor. The city police authorities have alerted the central agencies.
