Indore: The three-day celebration of Guru Angad Dev Prakash Parv began at Mata Gujri Ji gurdwara in Sudama Nagar on Friday. A large number of Sikh community members took part in the celebrations that began late in the evening. Kirtan (singing verses), aradas (seeking blessings), katha (recalling stories and lessons) and decoration of diwan (royal or lord’s home) were major ways of celebrations. Main speakers of the three-day event were Manmohan Singh and Jasvinder Singh from Amritsar Sahib. Guru Angad’s contribution was remembered, which motivated the gathering.
“Guru Angad set up mall akhara (wrestling arena) where physical exercises, martial arts, and wrestling were taught. The participants were encouraged to stay away from tobacco and other addictions,” general secretary of Shri Guru Singh Sabha Jasbeer Singh Gandhi told Free Press. He said guru composed about 63 shlokas, which together constitute one percent of Guru Granth Sahib, the holy book of Sikhs.
