PANCHKULA: The lover of the man, whose partially burnt body was found near
Mansa Devi Complex on April 27, allegedly strangulated her to death as he did not believe her that the child she was carrying belonged to him.
Deputy commissioner of police (DCP) Kamaldeep Goyal said the main accused, Anand (26), and his younger brother Azad (25) were arrested for the murder. Arti alias Anu (38),
the mother of a nine years old girl and a resident of Surajpur near Pinjore, was
five months pregnant. She was separated from her husband and living with her parents for last five years.
DCP Goyal said, “On April 25, she went to the house of Anand in Pipliwala town in Manimajra. Both had an altercation after which Anand strangulated her using her chunni in the bedroom of his house. He and his brother stuffed the body in a gunny bag, took a two-wheeler and dumped it at a secluded place in MDC. They burnt the body using petrol.”
The DCP said that they have secured the viscera, virginal swab, foetus and DNA samples of the victim which will be sent for chemical and forensic analysis. The post-mortem report suggests the cause of death due to strangulation. Four rubs were also broken probably due to hitting.
The DCP said that police is yet to recover the Scooty used to transport the body as well as mobile phones of Arti along with other belongings.
DCP’s sources informed about killersDCP Kamaldeep Goyal said that he had received a phone call from a very reliable source informing about the killers. Sources in Panchkula police said Anand lived in very congested locality of Pipliwala town in Manimajra in a three storied single room per floor house. Sources said that probably it was one of the neighbours who saw the accused loading a gunny bag on the scooty of the victim.
How Arti met Anand?Police said Anand told them he worked at a shop in Sector 19, Chandigarh. DCP Kamaldeep Goyal said in October 2018, Arti along with her widow sister went to the shop to buy clothes. It was then Anand met Arti exchanged their phone numbers, Later, they developed a relationship.
Checking during elections falls under scannerDCP Kamaldeep Goyal said they are verifying the route followed by the accused to transport the body of the victim by questioning the accused after the police remand is obtained. Police will also draw a map of the route followed by them. DCP said that probably they must have followed inner circle route instead of main roads, where police is generally present.
