Omung Kumar was missing-in-action since his movie PM Narendra Modi, which was about to release in theatres, had to be postponed. The Election Commision asked that the movie should be postponed so that it does not become a propoganda film and affect the voting of people.
After much delay, the film is finally out with a release date. Director Omung Kumar also came out and gave an interview in which he spoke about the after-effects of the delay and more, while celebrating that the movie does finally have a release date.
While talking to Mid-Day, Omung Kumar said, "We are happy the film has a release date. As a filmmaker, you want your work to be out there and it is finally happening. Right now, we are just waiting for May 24. We are hoping to have a smooth release now."
When asked about the delay in the release, the filmmaker added, "It would have been nicer if the movie had released earlier. But we respect the decision that was passed. The delay isn't going to affect the film. People are inquisitive and want to watch it. Now, our entire focus is on releasing the film."
The elections would play a crucial part in deciding if Narendra Modi was accepted by India in his five-year-term or no. In case the election results are something else, then the biopic might have little importance or relevance to the public. Speaking about the same, Omung mentioned, "It is an independent film that has nothing to do with the election results. So, we are not even thinking of it. We want the audience to watch our film as we know they are curious [about the subject]."
Directed by Omung Kumar, featuring Vivek Oberoi in the role of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, PM Narendra Modi was slated to release on April 11. After the Election Commission put a halt to the release on April 10, the movie is now scheduled to release on May 24.
