Lok Sabha elections 2019: 51 constituencies, 7 states, big battle in Amethi; all you need to know about fifth phase of LS polls

Lok Sabha elections 2019: 51 constituencies, 7 states, big battle in Amethi; all you need to know about fifth phase of LS polls

Voting for fifth phase of Lok Sabha elections will be held on May 6. Polling will be held in 51 constituencies across 7 states. There are some key contests in this phase, key constituencies like Rae Bareli where Sonia Gandhi will be contesting and Amethi where Rahul Gandhi will take on Smriti Irani will see close fights.

Lok Sabha election 2019 is being held in 7 phases. The polling in first four phases haS already taken place while the remaining phases will go to polls on May 6 (5th phase), May 12 (6th phase) and May 19 (7th phase). The counting of votes will be held on May 23.

5 seats from Bihar, 2 seats from Jammu and Kashmir, 4 seats from Jharkhand, 7 seats from Madhya Pradesh, 12 seats from Rajasthan, 14 seats from Uttar Pradesh and 7 seats from West Bengal are at fray in the fifth phase of Lok Sabha elections.

In Bihar, Sitamarhi, Madhubani, Muzaffarpur, Saran and Hajipur; in Jammu and Kashmir, Anantnag (in all polling stations falling in Shopian and Pulwama districts.), Ladakh; in Jharkhand, Kodarma, Ranchi, Khunti, Hazaribagh; in Madhya Pradesh, Tikamgarh, Damoh, Khajuraho, Satna, Rewa, Hoshangabad, Betu; In Rajasthan, Ganganagar, Bikaner, Churu, Jhunjhunu, Sikar, Jaipur Rural, Jaipur, Alwar, Bharatpur, Karauli-Dholpur, Dausa, Nagaur; in Uttar Pradesh, Dhaurahra, Sitapur, Mohanlalganj, Lucknow, Rae Bareli, Amethi, Banda, Fatehpur, Kaushambi, Barabanki, Faizabad, Bahraich, Kaiserganj, Gonda and in West Bengal, Bangaon, Barrackpore, Howrah, Uleberia, Sreerampur, Hooghly, Arambag Lok Sabha seats will go for polling on May 6.

Following are Lok Sabha constituencies set to vote in Phase 5 of polling:

Bihar:

  1. Sitamarhi Lok Sabha Constituency: Sitamarhi comprises of following Vidhan Sabha (legislative assembly) segments: Bathnaha, Parihar, Sursand, Bajpatti, Sitamarhi, Runnisaidpur, Sonabarsa. Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) has fielded Arjun Ray and JD-U has fielded Sunil Kumar Pintu.
  1. Madhubani Lok Sabha Constituency: Madhubani omprises of following Vidhan Sabha (legislative assembly) segments: Harlakhi, Benipatti, Bisfi, Madhubani, Keoti, Jale.  The seat is expected to witness a closely fought poll contest between Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidate Ashok Kumar Yadav and senior Congress and former Union minister Shakeel Ahmad, who is contesting as an independent.
  1. Muzaffarpur Lok Sabha Constituency: Muzaffarpur comprises of following Vidhan Sabha (legislative assembly) segments: Gaighat, Aurai, Bochahan (SC), Sakra (SC), Kurhani, Muzaffarpur. Ajay Nishad of Bharatiya Janata Party, Swarnlata Devi of Bahujan Samaj Party and Pradeep Kumar Singh of Shiv Sena are some of the prominent names that will contest from this constituency.
  1. Saran Lok Sabha Constituency: Saran comprises of following Vidhan Sabha (legislative assembly) segments: Marhaura, Chapra, Garkha (SC), Amnour, Parsa, Sonepur. The seat is expected to witness a tough poll battle between Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader and former Union minister Rajeev Pratap Rudy and Chandrika Rai of Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD).
  1. Hajipur Lok Sabha Constituency: Hajipur comprises of following Vidhan Sabha (legislative assembly) segments: Hajipur, Lalganj, Mahua, Rajapakar (SC), Raghopur, Mahnar. Umesh Das of Bahujan Samaj Party, Dasai Chaudhary of Nationalist Congress Party and Shiv Chandra Ram of Rashtriya Janata Dal, Pashupati Kumar Paras (Lok Jan Shakti Party) are some of the prominent names that will contest from this constituency. The Hajipur Lok Sabha constituency in Bihar is a reserved constituency and a stronghold of union minister Ram Vilas Paswan’s Lok Jan Shakti Party.

Jammmu and Kashmir:

  1. Anantnag Lok Sabha Constituency (in all polling stations falling in Shopian and Pulwama districts): Anantnag comprises of following Vidhan Sabha (legislative assembly) segments: Tral, Pampore, Pulwama, Rajpora, Wachi, Shopian, Noorabad, Kulgam, Hom Shali Bugh, Anantnag, Devsar, Dooru, Kokernag, Shangus, Bijbehara, Pahalgam. The key candidates in the Anantnag constituency for Lok Sabha Elections 2019 are Mehbooba Mufti of PDP, Sofi Yousuf of BJP, Hasnain Masoodi of NC and Ghulam Ahmad Mir of Congress.
  1. Ladakh Lok Sabha Constituency: Ladakh comprises of following Vidhan Sabha (legislative assembly) segments: Nubra, Leh, Kargil, Zanskar. There are only four candidates in the fray from the Ladakh Lok Sabha seat. While Rigzin Spalbar is contesting on a Congress ticket, Jamyang Tsering Namgyal is the BJP candidate. Asgar Ali Karbalai, a Congress leader, has filed nominations as an independent candidate. Another independent candidate Sajjad Hussain has the backing of the influential clergy in Kargil.

Jharkhand:

  1. Kodarma Lok Sabha Constituency: Kodarma comprises of following Vidhan Sabha (legislative assembly) segments: Kodarma, Barkatha, Dhanwar, Bagodar, Jamua (SC), Gandey. Bharatiya Janata Party has fielded Annapurna Devi, former Rashtriya Janata Dal state president who switched to the saffron party. This year, the Communist Party of India (Marxist–Leninist) has fielded Raj Kumar Yadav while the Jharkhand Vikas Morcha (Prajatantrik) has fielded Babulal Marandi from Kodarma constituency.
  1. Ranchi Lok Sabha Constituency: Ranchi comprises of following Vidhan Sabha (legislative assembly) segments: Ichagarh, Silli, Khijri (ST), Ranchi, Hatia, Kanke (SC). Bidyadhar Prasad of Bahujan Samaj Party, Sanjay Seth of Bharatiya Janata Party, Subodh Kant Sahay of Indian National Congress and independent candidate Ram Tahal Choudhary are a few prominent candidates contesting for general elections 2019 from Ranchi Lok Sabha Constituency of Jharkhand.
  1. Khunti Lok Sabha Constituency: Khunti comprises of following Vidhan Sabha (legislative assembly) segments: Kharsawan (ST), Tamar (ST), Torpa (ST), Khunti (ST), Kolebira (ST), Simdega (ST). In the 2019 Lok Sabha polls, Congress candidate Kalicharan Munda will take on BJP’s Arjun Munda from the seat.
  1. Hazaribagh Lok Sabha Constituency: Hazaribagh comprises of following Vidhan Sabha (legislative assembly) segments: Barhi, Barkagaon, Ramgarh, Mandu, Hazaribagh. Gopal Prasad Sahu of Indian National Congress, Jayant Sinha of Bharatiya Janata Party, Bhubaneshwar Prasad Mehta of Communist Party of India and Vinod Kumar of Bahujan Samaj Party are a few prominent candidates contesting for general elections 2019 from Hazaribagh Lok Sabha Constituency of Jharkhand.

Madhya Pradesh: 

  1. Tikamgarh Lok Sabha Constituency: Tikamgarh comprises of following Vidhan Sabha (legislative assembly) segments: Tikamgarh, Jatara, Prithvipur, Niwari, Khargapur, Maharajpur, Chhatarpur, Bijawar. Virendra Kumar of BJP is the sitting Member of Parliament from this constituency. He is contesting the 2019 Lok Sabha seats on BJP ticket against Congress candidate Kiran Ahirwar and Samajwadi Party’ Ratiram Bansal.
  1. Damoh Lok Sabha Constituency: Damoh comprises of following Vidhan Sabha (legislative assembly) segments: Deori, Rehli, Banda, Malhara, Pathariya, Damoh, Jabera, Hatta. BJP has fielded Prahlad Patel, Congress has fielded Pratap Singh Lodhi. BSP has fielded Jittu Khare, Hindusthan Nirman Dal has fielded Manvendra Singh.
  1. Khajuraho Lok Sabha Constituency: Khajuraho comprises of following Vidhan Sabha (legislative assembly) segments: Chandla, Rajnagar, Pawai, Gunnaor, Panna, Vijayraghavgarh, Murwara, Bahoriband. In the past, BJP leaders like Uma Bharti have represented Khajuraho seat. This time BJP has Bishnu Datt Sharma and Congress has fielded Kavita Singh Natiraja.
  1. Satna Lok Sabha Constituency: Satna comprises of following Vidhan Sabha (legislative assembly) segments: Chitrakoot, Raigaon, Satna, Nagod, Maihar, Amarpatan, Rampur-Baghelan. In 2019, BJP is once again keeping its hope on Ganesh Singh who has been winning in Satna for the past 3 terms. The Congress has fielded Raja Ram Tripathi.
  1. Rewa Lok Sabha Constituency: Rewa comprises of following Vidhan Sabha (legislative assembly) segments: Sirmour, Semariya, Teonthar, Mauganj, Deotalab, Mangawan (SC), Rewa, Gurh. For the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, the BJP has fielded its sitting MP Janardan Mishra once again while the Congress is pinning its hopes on Siddharth Tiwari ‘Raj’ and the CPI(M) has fielded Girijesh Singh Sengar from the Rewa Lok Sabha seat.
  1. Hoshangabad Lok Sabha Constituency: Hoshangabad comprises of following Vidhan Sabha (legislative assembly) segments: Narsingpur, Tendukheda, Gadarwara, Seoni-Malwa, Hoshangabad, Sohagpur, Pipariya, Udaipura. Hoshangabad has been a BJP’s bastion where the party has been winning since 1989. However, in 2009, Congress Uday Pratap Singh won seat but he switched over to BJP in 2014 elections. This time BJP has fielded Uday Pratap Singh and Congress has fielded Shailendra Diwan, while BSP fielded MP Choudhary.
  1. Betul Lok Sabha Constituency: Betul comprises of following Vidhan Sabha (legislative assembly) segments: Multai, Amla, Betul, Ghoradongri, Bhainsdehi, Timarni, Harda, Harsud. The BJP has fielded Durgadas Uike who is going to contest against Congress’ Ramu Tekam. Betul is one of the four seats in Madhya Pradesh which has been reserved for candidates representing Scheduled Tribe (ST) community.

Rajasthan:

  1. Ganganagar Lok Sabha Constituency: Ganganagar comprises of following Vidhan Sabha (legislative assembly) segments: Sadulshahar, Ganganagar, Karanpur, Suratgarh, Raisinghnagar (SC), Sangaria, Hanumangarh, Pilibanga (SC). Nihal Chand of Bharatiya Janata Party, Bharat Ram Meghwal of Indian National Congress, Ravtaram of Communist Party of India and Lunarama of Bahujan Samaj Party are a few prominent candidates contesting for general election 2019 from Ganganagar Lok Sabha constituency of Rajasthan.
  1. Bikaner Lok Sabha Constituency: Bikaner comprises of following Vidhan Sabha (legislative assembly) segments: Anupgarh (SC), Khajuwala (SC), Bikaner West, Bikaner East, Kolayat, Lunkaransar, Dungargarh, Nokha. Arjun Ram Meghwal of Bharatiya Janata Party, Bhaira Ram of Bahujan Samaj Party, Madan Gopal Meghwal of Indian National Congress and Syopat Ram of Communist Party of India (Marxist) are a few prominent candidates contesting for general election 2019 from Bikaner Lok Sabha constituency of Rajasthan.
  1. Churu Lok Sabha Constituency: Churu comprises of following Vidhan Sabha (legislative assembly) segments: Nohar, Bhadra, Sadulpur, Taranagar, Sardarshahar, Churu, Ratangarh, Sujangarh (SC). Balwan Poonia of Communist Party of India (Marxist), Rafique Mandelia of Indian National Congress, Rahul Kaswan of Bharatiya Janata Party and Hari Singh of Bahujan Samaj Party are a few prominent candidates contesting for general election 2019 from Churu Lok Sabha constituency of Rajasthan.
  1. Jhunjhunu Lok Sabha Constituency: Jhunjhunu comprises of following Vidhan Sabha (legislative assembly) segments: Pilani (SC), Surajgarh, Jhunjhunu, Mandawa, Nawalgarh, Udaipurwati, Khetri, Fatehpur. Narendra Kumar of Bharatiya Janata Party, Sharwan Kumar S/O Gokal Ram of Indian National Congress and Ajay Pal of Bahujan Mukti Party are a few prominent candidates contesting for general election 2019 from Jhunjhunu Lok Sabha constituency of Rajasthan.
  1. Sikar Lok Sabha Constituency: Sikar comprises of following Vidhan Sabha (legislative assembly) segments: Lachhmangarh, Dhod (SC), Sikar, Danta Ramgarh, Khandela, Neem Ka Thana, Srimadhopur, Chomu. Amraram of Communist Party of India (Marxist), Sita Devi of Bahujan Samaj Party, Subhash Maharia of Indian National Congress and Sumedhanand Saraswati of Bharatiya Janata Party are a few prominent candidates contesting for general election 2019 from Sikar Lok Sabha constituency of Rajasthan.
  1. Jaipur Rural Lok Sabha Constituency: Jaipur Rural comprises of following Vidhan Sabha (legislative assembly) segments: Kotputli, Viratnagar, Shahpura, Phulera, Jhotwara, Amber, Jamwa Ramgarh (ST), Bansur. Krishna Poonia of Indian National Congress, Col. Rajyavardhan Rathore of Bharatiya Janata Party and Virender Singh Bidhuri of Bahujan Samaj Party are a few prominent candidates contesting for general election 2019 from Jaipur Rural Lok Sabha constituency of Rajasthan.
  1. Jaipur Lok Sabha Constituency: Jaipur comprises of following Vidhan Sabha (legislative assembly) segments: Hawa Mahal, Vidhyadhar Nagar, Civil Lines, Kishan Pole, Adarsh Nagar, Malviya Nagar, Sanganer, Bagru (SC). Umrao Salodia of Bahujan Samaj Party, Jyoti Khandelwal of Indian National Congress and Ram Charan Bohra of Bharatiya Janata Party are a few prominent candidates contesting for general election 2019 from Jaipur Lok Sabha constituency of Rajasthan.
  1. Alwar Lok Sabha Constituency: Alwar comprises of following Vidhan Sabha (legislative assembly) segments: Tijara, Kishangarh Bas, Mundawar, Behror, Alwar Rural (SC), Alwar Urban, Ramgarh, Rajgarh – Laxmangarh (ST). Imran Khan of Bahujan Samaj Party, Bhanwar Jitendra Singh of Indian National Congress and Balak Nath of Bharatiya Janata Party are a few prominent candidates contesting for general election 2019 from Alwar Lok Sabha constituency of Rajasthan.
  1. Bharatpur Lok Sabha Constituency: Bharatpur comprises of following Vidhan Sabha (legislative assembly) segments: Kathumar (SC), Kaman, Nagar, Deeg-Kumher, Bharatpur, Nadbai, Weir (SC), Bayana (SC). Abhijeet Kumar Jatav of Indian National Congress, Ranjeeta Koli of Bharatiya Janata Party and Suraj Pradhan Jatav of Bahujan Samaj Party are a few prominent candidates contesting for general election 2019 from Bharatpur Lok Sabha constituency of Rajasthan.
  1. Karauli-Dholpur Lok Sabha Constituency: Karauli-Dholpur comprises of following Vidhan Sabha (legislative assembly) segments: Baseri (SC), Bari, Dholpur, Rajakhera, Todabhim (ST), Hindaun (SC), Karauli, Sapotra (ST). Manoj Rajoria of Bharatiya Janata Party, Ramkumar of Bahujan Samaj Party and Sanjay Kumar of Indian National Congress are a few prominent candidates contesting for general election 2019 from Karauli–Dholpur Lok Sabha constituency of Rajasthan.
  1. Dausa Lok Sabha Constituency: Dausa comprises of following Vidhan Sabha (legislative assembly) segments: Bassi (ST), Chaksu (SC), Thanagazi, Bandikui, Mahuwa, Sikrai (SC), Dausa, Lalsot (ST). Jaskaur Meena of Bharatiya Janata Party, Dwarka Prasad Maheshwara of Bahujan Samaj Party and Savita Meena of Indian National Congress are a few prominent candidates contesting for general election 2019 from Dausa Lok Sabha constituency of Rajasthan.
  1. Nagaur Lok Sabha Constituency: Nagaur comprises of following Vidhan Sabha (legislative assembly) segments: Ladnun, Deedwana, Jayal (SC), Nagaur, Khinvsar, Makrana, Parbatsar, Nawan. Dr. Jyoti Mirdha of Indian National Congress, Hanuman Beniwal of Rashtriya Loktantrik Party and Hanumanram of Rashtriya Power Party are a few prominent candidates contesting for general election 2019 from Nagaur Lok Sabha constituency of Rajasthan.

Uttar Pradesh: 

  1. Dhaurahra Lok Sabha Constituency: Dhaurahra comprises of following Vidhan Sabha (legislative assembly) segments: Biswan, Laharpur, Mahmoodabad, Sevata, Sitapur. In the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, the BJP has fielded Arun Sagar who is facing Brahma Swaroop Sagar of the Congress and Amar Chandra Jauhar of the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP).
  1. Sitapur Lok Sabha Constituency: Sitapur comprises of following Vidhan Sabha (legislative assembly) segments: Biswan, Laharpur, Mahmoodabad, Sevata, Sitapur. In the 2019 Lok Sabha election, Rajesh Verma has once again been fielded by BJP from the seat against Qaisar Jahan, who joined Congress after quitting BSP. BSP on the other hand has fielded Nakul Dubey from the seat.
  1. Lucknow Lok Sabha Constituency: Lucknow comprises of following Vidhan Sabha (legislative assembly) segments: Lucknow West, Lucknow North, Lucknow East, Lucknow Central, Lucknow Cantt. Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh is the incumbent Member of Parliament from this constituency. He is contesting the 2019 Lok Sabha seats against Congress candidate Pramod Krishnam and actor-turned-politician Poonam Sinha of Samajwadi Party.
  1. Mohanlalganj Lok Sabha Constituency: Mohanlalganj comprises of following Vidhan Sabha (legislative assembly) segments:  Sidhauli (SC), Malihabad (SC), Bakshi Kaa Talab, Sarojini Nagar, Mohanlalganj (SC). BJP has fielded sitting Member of Parliament Kaushal Kishore, RK Chaudhary is contesting from the seat on a Congress ticket.  BSP’s CL Verma and Pragatishil Samajwadi Party (Lohia) candidate Ganesh Rawat is also contesting from this seat.
  1. Rae Bareli Lok Sabha Constituency: Rae Bareli comprises of following Vidhan Sabha (legislative assembly) segments: Bachhrawan, Harchandpur, Rae Bareli, Sareni, Unchahar. Congress’s ex-President and UPA chairman Sonia Gandhi is the sitting Member of Parliament from this constituency. In the 2019 Lok Sabha election, Gandhi, who is seeking her fifth term from the seat, will be contesting against Dinesh Pratap Singh of BJP. Shivpal Singh Yadav’s Pragatisheel Samaj Party has fielded Hori Lal from the seat.
  2. Fatehpur Lok Sabha Constituency: Fatehpur comprises of following Vidhan Sabha (legislative assembly) segments: Jahanabad, Bindki, Fatehpur, Ayah Shah, Husainganj, Khaga. Niranjan Jyoti of Bharatiya Janata Party, Rakesh Sachan of Indian National Congress and Sukhdev Prasad Verma of Bahujan Samaj Party are a few prominent candidates contesting for general elections 2019 from Fatehpur Lok Sabha Constituency of Uttar Pradesh.
  3. Kaushambi Lok Sabha Constituency: Kaushambi comprises of following Vidhan Sabha (legislative assembly) segments: Babaganj, Kunda, Sirathu, Manjhanpur, Chail. Vinod Kumar Sonkar of BJP is the sitting Member of Parliament from this constituency. Shailendra Kumar of Samajwadi Party had won from the seat in 2009 Lok Sabha election. This year, he is contesting from the seat on Jansatta Dal (Loktantrik) ticket. Sonkar is seeking his second term from the seat in 2019 Lok Sabha election and will be contesting against SP’s Indrajeet Saroj and Congress’ Girish Chandra Pasi and BSP candidate Vinay Kumar Pandey from here.
  4. Barabanki Lok Sabha Constituency: Barabanki comprises of following Vidhan Sabha (legislative assembly) segments: Haidergarh, Ram Nagar, Barabanki, Zaidpur, Kursi and Dariyabad.Upendra Singh Rawat of Bharatiya Janata Party, Tanuj Punia of Indian National Congress and Ram Sagar Rawat of Samajwadi Party are a few prominent candidates contesting for general elections 2019 from Barabanki Lok Sabha Constituency of Uttar Pradesh.
  5. Amethi Lok Sabha Constituency: Amethi comprises of following Vidhan Sabha (legislative assembly) segments: Tiloi, Salon, Jagdishpur, Gauriganj and Amethi. Rahul Gandhi of Indian National Congress, Smriti Irani of Bharatiya Janata Party and Afajal Varis of Bahujan Mukti Party are a few prominent candidates contesting for general elections 2019 from Amethi Lok Sabha Constituency of Uttar Pradesh.

Lallu Singh of BJP is the sitting Member of Parliament from this constituency. In the 2019 Lok Sabha polls, Lallu Singh has been renominated by the BJP. He will be contesting against Congress candidate Nirmal Khatri and Samajwadi Party candidate Anand Sen.

Bahraich Lok Sabha Constituency: Bahraich comprises of following Vidhan Sabha (legislative assembly) segments: Balha, Nanpara, Matera, Mahasi and Bahraich.Akshaibar Lal of Bharatiya Janata Party, Shabbir Balmiki of Samajwadi Party and Savitri Bai Phoole of Indian National Congress are a few prominent candidates contesting for general elections 2019 from Bahraich Lok Sabha Constituency of Uttar Pradesh.
  8. Kaiserganj Lok Sabha Constituency: Kaiserganj comprises of following Vidhan Sabha (legislative assembly) segments: Payagpur, Kaiserganj, Katra Bazar, Colonelganj, Tarabganj. Chandradev Ram Yadav of Bahujan Samaj Party, Brijbhusan Sharan Singh of Bharatiya Janata Party and Vinay Kumar Pandey ‘Vinnu’ of Indian National Congress are a few prominent candidates contesting for general elections 2019 from Kaiserganj Lok Sabha Constituency of Uttar Pradesh.
  9. Gonda Lok Sabha Constituency: Gonda comprises of following Vidhan Sabha (legislative assembly) segments: Utraula, Gaura, Gonda, Mankapur, Mehnaun. Kirti Vardhan Singh of BJP is the sitting Member of Parliament from this constituency. In the 2019 Lok Sabha polls, Jyoti is recontesting the seat on BJP ticket against Congress’ Rakesh Sachan and BSP candidate Sukhdev Prasad Verma from here.
  10. Banda Lok Sabha Constituency: Banda comprises of following Vidhan Sabha (legislative assembly) segments: Baberu, Naraini(SC), Banda, Chitrakoot and Manikpur. BJP leader Bhairon Prasad Mishra is the sitting Member of Parliament from here. In the Lok Sabha Elections 2019, Patel is contesting from the seat on BJP ticket against Congress candidate Balkumar Patel. Samajwadi Party has fielded Shyama Charan Gupta while CPIM) has fielded Mahendra from the seat.
