The Kharghar police have arrested a 30-year-old man for the alleged rape and blackmail of a woman for over five years.

In a complaint filed on Wednesday, the woman said she met the accused Swapnil Kakade five years back at a housing society where she worked as a domestic help.

Lured with job offer

“The accused took her contact number on the pretext of offering her a job. Later, he called her to an address in Kharghar,” assistant police inspector Sachin Rane from Kharghar police station said.

Thinking that she was being called for a job, the complainant reached the address which turned out to be his house. He allegedly raped her and also made a video. The accused then threatened to harm her husband and children if she resisted. Later, on the threat of making the video viral he allegedly repeatedly raped her at his residence and in a lodge.

Paid ₹12 lakh

“The accused also demanded money from her threatening to make the video viral. Overall, the woman claims of having given him ₹12 lakh,” Mr. Rane said. The complainant’s husband, a government employee, had some savings and she had been taking the money without his knowledge. Mr. Kakade also made her pledge her gold for ₹7 lakh which was also taken away by him. On March 15, he went to her home in the absence of her husband and children and raped her again. “Finally, fed up of the trauma, she told her husband about it after which they registered a case and we arrested him on Friday,” Mr. Rane said.
