Eight teams comprising of national and international players will participate in the inaugural franchise of the Indo International Premier Kabaddi League (IIPKL) to be held across three venues in the country from May 13 to June 4.

A total of 44 matches featuring 160 players includng 16 foreign players will participate in this tournament to be held at Pune, Mysore and Bengaluru. The finale will be at Bengaluru on June 4 .The sponsors of the event include Living India, Daily Post and Fastway Network. “This league involves the best players selected after rigorous trials held throughout the country to unearth the best talent. It will provide a level playing ground for players and is aimed at once again taking India to the top in kabaddi”, said Dr M.V.

Prasad Babu, NKF general secretary said here on Saturday while addressing the media in the presence of Mr Dinesh Dixit, Vice President, Dail Post. Players have been classified into three categories. The players under ‘A’ category will gain Rs 10 lakhs, the B category will get Rs 8 lakh while ‘C’ category and ‘D’ category players will get Rs 6 lakhs and Rs 2 lakh respectively.

Elaborating on the league, Dr Prasad babu said an additional emerging’ players will be selected who will be the stand byes and will get to play as and when required. “IIPKL will be the first league where each team will have international players for an action packed game of kabaddi. There would also be women’s matches played before and after every match during the league for exhibition. A total of 8 teams have been selected who will display their skills during the league. After gauging the success, a full-fledged women’s league along the lines of the men’s league is in offing and is planned during November/ December 2019″, informed Prasad.
