Ludhiana: SAD-BJP candidate Maheshinder Singh Grewal and Congress candidate MP Ravneet Singh Bittu on Friday locked horns over the issue of who could serve voters better.
While raising questions over the the availability and local connect of Bittu, Grewal in a gathering on Friday asked voters to first check his permanent address.
Claiming that his family has been living in this city since independence, Grewal told the gathering that it was for them to decide whether they want to choose someone from their own city or an outsider. Responding to the claims, Bittu later said voters knew well, who was an outsider and who had started meeting people just a few days ago.
“Even after remaining the MP of Ludhiana for five years, Bittu does not have any permanent address here. Instead of buying a house in Ludhiana, Bittu purchased a plot in Mohali. His family even razed their ancestral house in Model Town and sold it off and Bittu has no interest or any sense of belonging with Ludhiana,” he said, adding even the house mentioned in the temporary address near Rose Garden remains either locked, or Bittu is never. “He is rarely there and even if he is there, he is hardly available for people,” he said.
Joining issue with Grewal, Bittu while speaking to TOI however claimed, “It seems that Akali candidate has been left with no public related issues about which he can debate and is now raking up irrelevant issues. The ancestral house about which he is talking existed during my grandfather’ time and I am not even aware what had happened to it.
He said since there is no allegation against him and he did not do any corruption in his tenure Grewal was now raking up the issue of his house and address now.
