If not Rae Bareli, BJP will definitely win Amethi: Piyush Goyal

Union minister, along with other senior party leaders, is camping here to monitor poll management
Varanasi: Union railway, coal and energy minister Piyush Goyal on Saturday said while Congress might be able to retain Rae Bareli, the BJP would definitely win Amethi this time.
“It was our fault that we delayed declaring Smriti Irani’s candidature from Amethi in 2014 because of which we lost. But, we are confident that she is going to defeat Congress president Rahul Gandhi in this election,” said Goyal, stressing that if Amethi was won, the tally of BJP in UP would stay above 70.
During an informal chat with reporters at the party’s media centre here in the afternoon Goyal said, “When we landed in Amethi, we were shocked to see that this parliamentary area was utterly backward even 40 years after representation by the Gandhis. That’s why we are coming with a film to show the truth of Amethi under Gandhis and also the development of Kashi in five years under Prime Minister Narendra Modi.”

Goyal echoed finance minister Arun Jaitley, who had attacked the Congress chief on the issue of offset companies in Delhi, and said that a large number of scams orchestrated by Rahul Gandhi were yet to come to light. He also mocked Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, saying she was a commander who called her own soldiers (candidates fielded by Congress) weaklings.
The Union minister, along with BJP’s national spokesman Nalin Kohli and other senior party leaders, is camping here to monitor poll management in Varanasi and adjoining seats of east UP.
