KOLKATA: The Shyampukur police has registered a case against a
doctor of a private nursing home for allegedly molesting a female
patient and then clicking objectionable photographs of her to extort money.
The cops said the
FIR — drawn on Thursday — was registered following a court petition moved by the victim’s friend. Police have named a doctor working with the nursing home as the prime accused. The FIR has also mentioned that the doctor who carried out the “routine test” on the victim at the nursing home did not possess a MBBS degree. Police, after preliminary probe, however, said the doctor indeed had a valid MBBS degree.
“We have drawn up the case based on a court order and invoked IPC sections pertaining to impersonation (419), insulting modesty of woman
(509), extortion (384), putting person in fear of injury in order to commit extortion (385) and
molestation where one captures the image of a woman engaging in a private (354 C). Investigation is on in the case that took place on September 6 last year. Recording of statements has begun,” said an officer.
The FIR states that on the evening of September 6, 2018, the accused, posing as a doctor, insulted the modesty of a woman patient – a friend of the complainant. He also used abusive language, it was alleged. The accused also allegedly clicked some photographs of the victim which he allegedly used later to extort money from the victim.
An officer said, “There are several aspects involved in this case. We will get the woman’s statement recorded. Some personal and work-related issues are also under our consideration. We are also contacting independent eyewitnesses present at the nursing home on that day.”
In January this year, police had registered a case of molestation against a doctor of a diagnostic centre near NRS hospital in the Muchipara area of central Kolkata.
The survivor alleged that the accused kept misbehaving with her even after she had complained.
