A six member gang of criminals snatched gold chains from three sleeping passengers of the Nagpur-bound Secunderabad-Nagpur express about a km ahead of Mandamarri railway station in Mancherial district in the small hours of Saturday.
RPF Kazipet CI Karre Swamy said the offenders were travelling in the train. They pulled the chain to stop the train, jumped out, pulled the window shutters up and snatched three chains from sleeping women passengers from S4, D5 and S6 bogies, the CI said.
“The theft was contained as the alert train escort constables locked the doors and windows,” Mr. Swamy said. The snatchers escaped under the cover of darkness.
The victims, Shaikh Talwal and Sushma Ram belong to Nagpur while T. Kalpana hails from Hyderabad. A total of 5.5 tola gold was lost.
