Tension prevailed in front of Kadavanthra police station after local residents and DYFI activists laid siege to the station on Friday night.
This was after one Premraj, a resident of Kadavanthra-Karshaka Road, was picked up by the police. He was reportedly chatting with his friends on the road near his house when the Kadavanthra Sub Inspector asked them to leave the place.
When Premraj said his house was nearby, the police allegedly picked him up. He was later taken to the station.
Subsequently, local residents laid siege to the station and raised slogans against the police. Later, Assistant Commissioner and CPI(M) district secretariat member K.J. Jacob arrived at the scene. The situation was brought under control after the protesters were told that action would be taken against Sub Inspector Abhilash.
Meanwhile, Premraj was admitted to hospital.
