Alumni trust lends a hand to SW institutions’ society

The campus of Balayogi Gurukul School at Tadepalligudem in West Godavari district is abuzz with activity even during summer holidays.

A batch of 40 Intermediate-pass students drawn from different social welfare schools run by the AP Social Welfare Residential Educational Institutions Society (APSWREIS) is undergoing training in vocational courses.

“This is a pilot project of our ambitious plan to impart training in vocational courses to 20,000 students in the academic year 2019-20. The idea is to equip them with skills that will pave the way for their placements in the industry,” said Col. V. Ramulu, secretary of the society.

The training started on Wednesday (May 1) and it is mainly designed for students who find it difficult to continue education after Intermediate. The trainees can find work construction material-testing lab assistant or engineering survey assistant.

Huge demand

“There is huge demand and acute shortage for suitable candidates for these posts,” said Mr. Ramulu.

Courses which have high probability of fetching immediate employment are being taught here. “Very rarely we find people with the knowledge of AutoCad, Total Station (TS) and GDPS (Differential Geo-Positioning System). Other courses are MS Office, Post Graduate Diploma in Computer Applications (PGDCA), DTP operation, TV mechanism and mobile mechanic,” he said.

Members of the Hyderabad-based Kakinada Engineering Alumni Trust for Service (KEATS) offered a helping hand to the society by providing equipment and trainers.

Key areas

KEATS is focussed mainly on three areas — environment, education and empowerment.

The Balayogi Gurukul School has earned a good reputation for many of its achievements like children here being taught C language in the 7th standard itself.

According to the KEATS members, after the training, the students will have to do internship in the construction industry and most of them would be recruited by the companies based on an understanding reached with them.
