Five of a family killed, four injured in accident

Hubballi: Five members of a family were killed on the spot and four others sustained serious injuries after the SUV in which they were travelling met with an accident on NH 4 near Metikurke village in Hiriyur police limits on Wednesday.
Chitradurga SP Dr Arun K told TOI that the ill-fated SUV was going towards Bengaluru from Bhadravathi. When it was near Metakurke village, one of its tyres burst and the vehicle crossed the divider. The SUV then hit a goods vehicle which was coming in the opposite direction.
The injured were shifted to Hiriyur Government Hospital and their condition is said to be stable, the SP said.
The deceased are Jayamma Mohan Nayak, 50, of Kurchividu village, Chittoor district Andhra Pradesh, Sushmita Jagadish, 13, a resident of Mumbai, Lata Prakash, 26, Varnika Prakash, 9 and Jahanavi Purushottam all residents of Bengaluru.
Hiriyuru Rural police have registered a case.
