Jurisdiction tussle delays investigation

Tirupur: In the tussle over jurisdiction, the Tirupur and Erode district police are yet to decide on registering a cheating case in which five suspects posing as police personnel made away with Rs 3 crore from three people from Kerala. A senior police official said Anwar of Kerala who was involved in gold jewellery business had sent his friend Mohammed Nishar and two others to Chennai to hand over gold to one of his customers on April 3.
The trio handed over the gold and received cash from the customer. The next morning, they were returning in a car. When they were passing Pagalayur in Erode district, they were intercepted by five people posing as police personnel.
They ‘seized’ the cash in the car citing model code of conduct and escaped with the cash in their car.
Nishar and others went to the Uthukuli police station and lodged a complaint. But they were asked to visit Perundurai police station claiming that the crime spot was not in their jurisdiction.

As the robbery took place on Tirupur-Erode district border, the case was not registered by either of the rural police. The investigation into the robbery has not been initiated due to this.
Meanwhile, police suspect that the cash which the complainants were carrying could be of illegal business transaction.
