HC notice to NMC, NIT on RTO Colony ground

Playground in Priyadarshani Colony near RTO was concretized
Nagpur: The Nagpur bench of Bombay high court on Thursday issued notices to Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC), Nagpur Improvement Trust (NIT) and others while hearing an application on concretization of Priyadarshini Colony playground behind Nagpur City RTO Office.
A division bench comprising justices Ravi Deshpande and Shreeram Modak while hearing the application moved by Prafulla Khubalkar, directed respondents to file reply by next month, when HC resumes working after summer vacations. The application was attached to the PIL regarding encroachments on playgrounds in the city, based on media reports.

Khubalkar, who was appointed amicus curiae in the PIL, submitted the application based on a TOI report exposing how the civic authorities have concretized the playground by using paver blocks, due to which children have lost their only playground. They also suffered injuries while playing on the concrete blocks. Many residents were also parking their four wheelers on the concretized playground. Moreover, water is not seeping into the ground, due to the blocks.
The amicus prayed for a stay on regularization of unauthorized constructions on areas marked as playgrounds.
