10-acre site to be developed in a systematic manner

The Ukkayapalli dumping yard on the outskirts of Kadapa city would soon become a full-fledged park by infusing funds to the tune of ₹23 crore.

National Green Tribunal (NGT) State-level committee chairperson Justice B. Seshasayana Reddy visited Ukkayapalli and Maddimadugu dumping yards on Wednesday to inspect the process of garbage disposal.

Justice Reddy announced that the garbage would henceforth be dumped in a scientific manner at the Maddimadugu yard on Rayachoty road, and announced that the 10-acre Ukkayapalli yard would be developed in a systematic manner by incorporating a walking track, solar lighting system, children’s play area and a resting area.

“The yard, which is being used by the municipal corporation to dump garbage, will soon be closed down and converted into a park and will again be handed over to the civic body for maintenance,” he said.

Concrete plans

“The Maddimadugu dumping yard will get solar lighting, internal roads and water supply with the ₹3.09 crore funded from Swachh Andhra Corporation. Kadapa city is churning out garbage to the tune of 156 tonnes every day, which will be disposed of in a scientific manner in this 99-acre yard, by segregating dry and wet waste. Steps would be taken to ensure that nothing else enters this site, barring municipal solid waste. The practice of burning waste should be done away with,” Justice Reddy said.

Municipal Commissioner Lavanna, AP Pollution Control Board senior environmental engineers Subba Rao and Janardhan Rao, Kadapa regional environmental engineer Javed Basha, municipal engineer M. Daula and Health Officer Srinivasa Reddy were among those present.
